Title: Gallery
Post by: Justin B. on October 30, 2020, 10:48:19 PM
I am looking into buying a photo gallery add-on for the forum.  This gallery would be integrated into the forum, not an external stand-alone application.  I have found one that is supposed to be able to convert from Coppermine which is what the old gallery used.

It's not much and there should be enough money in the "kitty" to cover it.  I am waiting for some dialogue with the developer to make sure we can port over what we have.  His initial response was that it was a "basic converter" for the gallery software.  I need to make sure it will bring all of the images and users over before I commit to it.

I have installed the Gallery add-on and will try to get the old Coppermine data ported over as soon as possible.  Please don't add any pictures you don't want to loose before I get the conversion done.  I don't know if the conversion replaces or merges so better to be safe.

EUREKA!!!

The photo gallery is now live and the data from the old Coppermine gallery has been imported.  Just click on the "Gallery" tab/button at the top and have fun.  This is not an add-on application like we had to use with the YaBB forum but an integrated gallery that does not require it's own login!  Everything should be seamless and no need to request a gallery login and password like in the past!

The conversion routine made the assumption that the user id number would be the same on both the Coppermine forum and SMF.  Apparently this is the first stand-alone Coppermine gallery to get converted.  The developer is going to write me a conversion routine that will attempt to match username and/or e-mail address when it decides which smf user a pic belongs to.  I will need to go through the old Coppermine gallery DB and try to match up users and make sure the user names or e-mail matches.  There will probably be a lot of pics that wind up in a big "bucket" as I remember that not everybody used the same username on both the forum and gallery but I'm going to do the best I can.

This is going to be a manual process so it's not going to get done tomorrow!

If people could poke around the old gallery and let me know which albums are theirs it would help.  Url to old gallery is:

The gallery has been down for several months due to issues on Suraklyn's host but I finally got it transferred over to our host yesterday and was then able to start working on things.

I received a new conversion program this morning, ran it, and it FUBARed the gallery so I have sent in a bug report and waiting for a new program...

I'm gonna need it.  I just ran the third modified conversion program and it doubled the number of pictures and flagged them all as "guest!"  The developer is still working on it but it will be worth it once it's sorted...

Fantastic, Joe, hopefully everybody elses will be OK.

I have put out feelers for someone I can farm out the attachment conversion issue to.  Hopefully somebody will be willing to do it and not charge too much!
