Title: Newnes early '70's
Post by: Graeme on September 10, 2012, 03:01:32 AM
I'm a bit late reporting this ride by about 40 years or so:-

It's an abandoned shale mining town in the Blue Mountains of NSW about 2-1/2 hours west of Sydney. The pub you see is the only building left standing but was moved physically by a couple of hundred volunteers across the road & about 100 metres south after nearly being lost in a flood.

The pub was still licensed at that time & never closed until the last patron left. The road in was a shocker as the mine & refinery had closed about 20 years before.

It has a fascinating history - http://users.tpg.com.au/newnes/

There's no BMW's there. The good looking bloke in the White Levi Jacket is your's truly.

Better late than never!  Great trip photos!  The clothes give it away as being 40 years ago.   ;D  Looks like everyone was having a grand time.
