Title: Love the Transmission on the R65LS
Post by: Red_Hen on May 22, 2012, 09:07:22 PM
Hi Gang,

I've been riding Tina around town lately - I just love her gearbox!  When she's cold, I slowly drive down the street in 1st gear.  She sounds so cool with the Luftmeister exhaust.

On the highway, 4th feels so good that I have to remind myself that there's a 5th gear!

A very smooth ride and pretty quick too!  Really loving Tina!

Like fine, single malt scotch - it's an acquired taste and not for everybody!  ;D

I like the gear whine in third gear and a  heavy throttle .

The Staintune exhaust I've got on the '82 LS gives it a bit of a 'growl' when you're on the throttle in the lower gears .

I should add Tina loves twisties - she handles unbelievably well in turns!

That's the type of road these bikes are best suited for .

Ken I did enjoy your articles on Tina's rebuild. When things are running right which is most of the time, I too love my LS. I just really dislike it when I do something wrong and create him trouble like my latest effort to simply put in some speed bleeders which i thought would help with the fluid change on the left front caliper. I should'a left well enough alone but it was only maintenance! I do know not to fix anything that aint broke...but an improvement sounded good! Nah. I can change the fluid myself on that side..just takes a bit of doing.
These R65's are lots of fun and attract attention too!
They have almost every attribute that for me makes them a good touring bike choice. For larger riders maybe not so much.

I'm 175 pounds, and my R65 is enough for me.
