Title: Rockers vs Mods... Texas style
Post by: montmil on February 07, 2010, 08:52:27 AM
OK, it's a regional thing but the Dallas Rockers vs Mods Easter-time event is growing. Cool pics show up on some of the links.

Lou, Monte and I have had a little discussion about this.  Since he has that gentle little Kymco scooter it would behoove him to dress a'la Herman's Hermits.  I, on the other hand, have a cool vintage Triumph that's a real motorcycle.  [smiley=ROTFLMAO.gif]

Me on the Kymco 50cc would likely be able to keep up with mi amigo, el hombre GRANDE on the 350 Turnip.
See you at the Ace, Bomber.

I'm trying to think of a popular song written about a scooter.  Hmmm, lemme think a moment... nope, not coming up with anything at all.

About as close as I can get is:

"My jacket's gonna be cut and slim and checked,
Maybe a touch of seersucker, with an open neck.
I ride a G S scooter with my hair cut neat,
Wear my wartime coat in the wind and sleet."

The Who, "I've Had Enough" from Quadrophenia

Ditto that, John!  I love, love love that song and that album and the Who.  They did a bang-up performance at the Superbowl.  I'm torn though...the Who is definitely the Mod band, but judging from pics from the Texas event, our BMW's would put us squarely in the Rocker camp.

True enough on the Who.  Wasn't overwhelmed with the show at the Super Bowl but they did fine considering the venue.

Having said that, when it comes to motorcycles and music, I don't think you can top this song.

Who dat say day gonna beat dem Saints? Who dat?

The Super Bowl performance by the Who was hampered by very poor broadcast audio. Lots of screaming vocals but the music seemed to be coming outta the locker rooms. A shame.

I can't wait to see Mick Jagger being rolled out on stage in an oxygen-equipped wheelchair for his final performance of I Can't Get No...  ;D    These boys really are getting on a bit...

Monte, where were you last year when Mick tried to strut his stuff?  Maybe it was two years ago, but I swear that guy should have turned in his microphone sometime back.  What's with the Super Bowl organizers that they have to hire 40 and 50 year old bands?  Hey, if they are going to do that then let's get the Gipsy Kings up there.  Those boys can really rock the house.

So, have you been out getting fitted for your seersucker suit yet?  Haven't heard much out of you lately.  Think I'll ride the Turnip to the BMW meeting tonight.   8-)

When the thread said "Texas style" I thought the mods would be wearing cowboy hats.

Was any rockabilly played, or is that just the Ton-up crowd?

Back in '83 I had a Yamaha 125 scooter, and one of the Army parkas.  Then in '87 I bought my Triumph and joined the rocker camp for good.

Those parkas are not even remotely waterproof.

This quick note is primarily for our new Ft Worth-based member, Lee Harvey.

One of the three watering holes scheduled as stops on the MvR Tour is named... wait for it...

I was watching the TV show "Cafe Racer" on the HD Theater channel last night.  They did a little segment on the Mods & Rockers event in Texas.  Neat looking event, and I saw a few BMWs among the "rocker" bikes.

I'm trying to resist upgrading to some of the HD channels my cable provider offers. Besides Cafe Racer, there is always something going on with the IoM TT Races. Love it. And don't forget the World Rally Championships...

Shoot, even my Soldier son scores Cafe Racer and I don't even know where the H-E-Double Hockey Sticks he is. Lucky rascal.
