Title: 2010 Barber
Post by: montmil on October 11, 2010, 01:25:45 PM
The Mike n' Monte Show has returned from Alabama and the 2010 edition of the Barber Vintage Festival. If the two of us didn't do it all, then I haven't a clue as to what we could have missed.

Barber Motorsports Park is a drop dead gorgeous setting. Perfect weather, friendly and courteous people, a world class museum and track, vintage motorcycle road racing -and vintage certainly does not mean slow, trials riders on thumpin' 500cc Brit singles, vintage motocross races, 400+ vendors offering both treasures and trash, food and frosty adult beverages... for us, there was nothing lacking.

Sir John Surtees, at 77 years, showed all that he can still hot lap the 500cc MV Augusta and the 1.5 litre Formula One Ferrari with which he won numerous World Championships on both two wheels and four; the only man ever to do so. Seeing Sir John was a true treat.

Dumped all my photos, both OK and poor, so check 'em out. Bengt Phorqs will also have some to share.

Monte & Mike,

Thanks for sharing the photo links!  Gorgeous machines - beautiful photos.  Looked like a perfect weekend!

Any audio clips of the MV Agusta?

Close your eyes, Mike, and I'll try my Luddite audio recorder... Surtees comes out of the righthander turns 5 & 6, known as the Carolina Coaster due to its drop in elevation;

Bengt Phorqs is drooling at the fence. He's gotten off his leash again...

I hear the MV go something like Va-Va-B-r-o-o-o-o-o-m... W-a-a-a-a-a-h-h-h as Sir John honks by tucked in at full tilt. Classic all black leathers but wearing a full face helmet. No puddin' bowl these days.

No kidding here. The hair on my arms was standing straight up! The World Champion did quite a few laps until he pulled off alongside the museum's pit exit and jumped into the Ferrari. The MV actually looked faster.

Props to the Barber Vintage Museum management for putting these priceless machines back into their element with the proper rider/driver.

Damn you're good Monte.  I can almost smell the racing fuel.  Looks like a fantastic venue and museum.  I hope to visit there some day.

Gee that complex looks like a great place to spend a day to a year just taking in all the machines.

Thank you very much for sharing.

Barber's Motorsports Museum should be mandatory viewing for anyone with even a passing interest in motorcycles.  If you can't find it there it wasn't made.  Monte really was like a blind dog in a butcher shop and I had to restrain him several times.  He's a pretty good negotiator too.  He even managed to trade a Miller Lite training beer to a tee shirt vendor for two shirts.  Pretty good deal in my opinion.  I'll not speak poorly of training beer in the future.

Here's a few pictures that I shot.  I don't do the photobucket thing so don't have nearly as many to share.

Monte,

I'm in *Lust* for that 4LS front brake on the MV for my Thunderbolt.  Thanks for the pics and all guys.  Sorry I couldn't make it.  Too much going on that weekend... :')

Thank you both for posting. I must get to Barber some day! Loved Ozzie's Vintage BMW Racing's sidecar rig...could sleep comfortably on those beautiful contours!

Here's a couple more including the Man himself, Sir John.  That MV Augusta sounded so sweet coming down the back straight.
