Hello.. am getting a couple of new R65 battery cover stickers made up. Does anyone have the width measurements handy? Inches or mm's are fine.
thanks in advance.

I do. Have a "rubbing" of my originals - just for such a need -and will reply back after I get to the shop in an hour or so. Stand by...
Monte
I'm back...
From the left edge of the "R" horizontally to the right edge of the "5" = 3 25/32 inch total width
Height of the "R" = 17/32 inch
From left edge of "R" to the R's baseline lower diagonal stroke (pointy end) = 30/32 inch width
Height of the "65" = 1 3/32 inch
From left edge of the "6" to the right edge of the "5" = 2 25/32 inch
Hope this helps. Lemme know if you require add'l info. Are you having these made locally? Can the provider create the horizontal connection between the "6" and the "5"?
You may have a marketable item...

Monte, Did the dual shock R65 decal have that "3D" effect?
Just wondering as I did come across a similar "3D" on one of my searches for a mono decal. The only sample of the mono I could find was just "2D", so I used that as my pattern. Always wondered... :-/

Hi Monte,
thanks.. that is exactly the info I was looking for. Yes, I am going to have the stickers made locally.. I have not priced out the sticker yet. My mono has the later (more strait forward) design, and I would like to go back in time.
As far as the design goes, I have an adobe illustrator vector file that I created based on a jpeg found on the internet. So what ever I have for artwork, the vinyl plotter should be able to cut a sticker to. As you can see from my attachment I am going with a white drop shadow since my bike is silver with white and blue pin striping.
the plan:

The stickers on my '83 were 2D. Did not have the drop shadow. I don't know if the stickers were OEM purchases or a sourced replacement. The bike is currently painted white -that will change this Spring- but the paint code sticker under the seat indicates an original factory blue paint job.
Quien sabe? I'd go with whatever you like best.

Gary,
I need decals for my '83 R65. Any chance you could have a set made in plain white, no shadow? My bike is black with white & red pinstripes Hmmm second thought, I wonder what how they would look with a red shadow?
Anyway, I would be glad to pay the cost & postage. :) Let me know.
Or, could you provide the vector file for plain white w/o the shadow?
The cheapest I could find them from BMW on the net was $18 each!
Thanks

From Monte: << I don't know if the stickers were OEM purchases or a sourced replacement. >>
There's another thread from a few months back on this topic. I recall someone posting a recollection that the decals came with the bikes, but were not affixed to the battery covers at the factory. Perhaps they were sometimes applied by dealers, sometimes by the new owners, sometimes not at all.
The BMW part number for stickers for dual-shock R65s gets the purchaser a white sticker with no shadow. (I had to go to the garage and check those on my '81 to be certain.)

I like Gary's version above better than the "Plain Jane" Mono version I put on. Too late now.

Hi Bob,
Looks like I have found someone who will make me some stickers.. I can fit as many R65s on a 1 x 1 foot square for $25. I will have to do up a sheet of blue and a sheet of white. I'll get back to you after the job is done and see if you or any others are interested in taking some off my hands.. since I only need for one bike and have a few spares in case I mess up :-/
