On August 28th I thought I had my bike rebuilt. I was having an issue with the transmission lever hitting the bike frame, but I decided "to heck with it, I'm going for a ride". What I didn't realize, was that several months earlier, I had drained the transmission and replaced the drain plug loosely, so as not to lose it...
Last April I only rode it a few miles before discovering the lever problem. But I didn't run it enough to really heat up the transmission.
I assumed I had bent the frame in some bizarre fashion, and settled into a summer-long funk.
Then in August, I "went for a ride" - without checking my fluids....
I was going to my sister's across town on the interstate. After 20 miles or so of that, when I went to exit the highway, there were all kinds of new noises!
Sept. 9, I buy a new, used transmission.
Oct. 9, I finish the installation! I just happened to request a Friday off work, yesterday, and we have had beautiful weather - not a cloud in the sky and 83F (28C) right now! I worked all day yesterday at a fever pitch ::) in order to get it done for today!
Tomorrow is supposed to be more of the same. ;D
Wish me luck. I am hoping to get south of town and maybe bring back some pictures, for you!

Good luck, Rob! We figured that your spirits would lift if you got your R65 back on the road again. Ride safe and get some nice pics for us!

Getting back on the road, is always good therapy for what's ailing you !!!!!!!!

Mate, have a great ride. Cant wait to see the pics [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif]

Congratulations Rob!
...too bad I didn't have $2500 laying around, huh?
-
It is still for sale, Ed.
I just gave away my spare frame, swingarm, etc. on Craigslist.
I sent the local dealer a message stating I was interested in getting my bike tuned up. One of the locals around here says they have an airhead-capable mechanic. What the hell, it's only money.
Probably won't get a response until Tuesday.

Wot? Your going to sell the R65???
(Mien Gott!)
-
It is at that one last try, stage.
I just found out that the local dealership has a airhead-wise mechanic, and is willing to set the timing and balance the carburetors for me at shop rate.
I have an appointment for next Tuesday.....

Be hard to see her go, I should think! I sure hope the urge to ride hasn't diminished though, Rob?
