Title: R65.org Flag Events
Post by: msbuck on July 07, 2008, 10:31:44 PM
OK, so here's the deal.  If two or more R65ers are gathering at a rally or event, just drop me a line and I'll post the flag off to attend the event as well.  Just two requirements...everyone there signs the flag and an official picture with all attendees should be posted in this thread.  Whadayathink?   8-)

I'll post the first two official R65 Flag events...

Great Idea!!  So is anyone other than me going to the MOA national?? Chris from BC will be there...remember Chris was a really well informed R65 mechanic..he helped me a lot. He hasn't posted lately has he? He wrote me though to congratulate me on my MOA mileage contest thing.

Sue, send me your address and I'll get the flag headed your way.  The National is coming up soon, right?  I'm also going to list the events on the back flap.  There's sure to be another R65er there - it's worth a trip anyway! Chris is rated as a full member - posted in June.  He definitely counts!  We should just add new names, so we can get as many members represented as we can.  Take your blue pen with you Sue.  I had to use a black one for John, but it just needs to be a permanent marker.  And don't try to clean it - I'm not sure how it'll hold up, just let it weather - gives it character!  :D

Rich,

I'm up for it, but the only time I can do this is when I'm on vacation, my last day of work is Oct. 20th, and I go back to work on Nov. 21st.

This ride was at the Bluegrass Camp Night last month, though I never did track down the lucky owner:

That would have made two R65's.  Should have brought the flag!

Post by: msbuck on July 11, 2008, 02:23:54 PM
Yeah, that's another thought behind taking the flag around to the events - just might recruit another member or two that way!  That R65 sure looks familiar...

Never did hear back from Sue, so I guess she's already headed west for the National Rally.  Guess the flag won't make it to that one.  :(  Unless there is someone else out there heading that way that wants to take it...  :question

I'm bumping this thread so any new folks that have joined up recently can see the flag and get in on a Flag Event!  Let's get one going!

Hopefully it will be at the BMW MOA National this summer.  I'm also planning to be at the BMW RA National in WV which is the weekend after the MOA.  Anyone else?

- you west coast folks need to come up with an event for the flag to attend.   Melena, isn't there a rally you attend regularly that has some R65ers there?

Post by: Rob Valdez 79 R65 on February 27, 2009, 06:19:45 PM
I currently have the flag in my possession.
Sue sent it to me hoping it would make me feel better!

If anyone wants it before the MOA national in June, let me know and I'll get it to you.

There's the 49er Rally over Memorial Day weekend.  I'll be going to that.  Anyone else out there on the West Coast going?  Maybe we can get a bunch of us to get there.

Yup, I'm planning on both the national and the RA in W. Virginia a week later. My brother Rich is going to try to come to the RA from Cape Breton. Then you will have two almost the same Canucks to fathom out!!!

I am glad the flag will have a good chance of arriving somewhere for a very positive occasion...not that feeling better isn't an occasion...sigh...you know what I mean?!
Title: Re: R65.org Flag Events
Post by: msbuck on February 28, 2009, 05:48:02 PM
I'm glad the flag was able to be used in a positive manner during the off season.  No better reason that lifting the spirits of those in need!!!

Now let's keep the use to gatherings this year.... ok, guys and gals?

Sue, glad to hear you're planning on the RA rally as well.  We plan to hit Willville between the two.  And I'll get to meet your brother, since we never made that trip to Nova Scotia....

Not that one, though I'm hoping to make it to Chief Joseph this year.  I'm taking some forest management classes that will be eating up a bunch of weekends this year.

This newbe is planning on attending the MOA rally in June.  This will be the first trip on the 1982 R65 I am currently restoring.  Prior to this project changing oil and setting valve clearance was the extent of my motorcycle maintenance experience.  I attached a photo showing the status from two weeks past.

Wow, you are truly doing a "frame up" restoration, Stan!!  I'm envious!  Wish I had the nerve (and the resources) to do that with Britta.  I know at her age (and mileage) that she sure could use it!

I hope you'll provide us with plenty of pics showing your bike being brought back to life.  We all live for that kind of stuff here!

Look forward to meeting you and your bike at the MOA National in July!

John

That looks really good Stan. I agree with John that it would be good to get at our bikes from the bottom up like you have. LRB is looking a bit sandblasted from 88,000 miles. He still takes on a good shine though...in most places ie!

I believe that we got pics of the gang, including Neil (R65Guy) AND the flag from the BMWMOA 2009 rally in Johnson City, TN, but the flag photos must have been on someone else's camera... Sue?  John?    Mike?

I have the flag still.  I'll hang onto it and bring it with me!  It's only a month away, after all.   :o

This will be a good one to get pictures of us West Coast folk along with whoever else can make it.  I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone!

I'll make sure to post where I'm going to camp (I think I already know the area I'll be camping) and also I'll put up a sign somewhere at the rally.  I'm sure they'll have somewhere to put up a note for folks to meet.  Maybe I can make a sign to take to put up.

To enable us all to find each other at these rallies, it is often useful to trade cellphone numbers by PM. Trying to just hope you run across someone there just doesn't work at these huge rallies.
I'll send mine out to Chris BC, Melena, Ed just in case I go!! :-/

Okay, here's the flag pictures from the 2010 BMW MOA Rally in Redmond, Oregon.   ;)

Since Neal (R65 Guy) was leaving early, I took a picture with just 3 of us.  The other person is Lisa with a beautiful blue R65.  Hopefully she will be joining us here.

The other picture is Saturday evening after the closing ceremonies.  We are missing a few other people.  Darryl Richman was there but didn't make it to the "photo shoot".  And it seems that Chris and Arlie from BC misunderstood where we were meeting.  But I did get a chance to talk with them.  I also met Ken Tuvman there, but he had to leave before I got a chance to talk with him again.

Now that I have the pictures up I'd better identify everyone.

From left to right:
The 1st gentleman has an R65 was there with his son. I can't remember his name, but he did sign the flag and now I'm trying to read it.  I think it is Bob Wakima (sp?) and he has a black 83 R65.

#2 is Jerry Bauer and he has an '83 R65 GS (that's right, GS!!) - "Professor Fate".  I'll post pictures on another thread.  I believe he said he has been on the forum.

#3 is Dave Seip - R65 Lust!  He has the 81 R56LS that he's still working on.

#4 is Ed Miller - He's got the 81 R65 with the Windjammer.

#5 is me!   8-)  Melena,  my Black 83 R65 LilBee.

#6 is Jim Kamp from Canada.  He's got 1 of 3 R45's in Canada that he's named "piglet"!  He and Dee were glad to meet up.  Sue, he said he's met you.  Small world isn't it?

#7 is Dee with the 78 R45 in Washington State.

I think I've got everyone down now.  What an interesting rally.  And what fun getting together with all the R65 and R45 owners.   I can't believe I did it.  People would come up and start talking about my bike and then I'd find out they had one too.  I think there might have been a few others I talked with that didn't make it on Saturday.  I met so many people it's hard to remember now.

And how wonderful to meet the folks from here on the forum.

Thanks John.  And that's just the beginning.  I still have to write up the rally report and then the ride report.  Each with their own pictures.   :D

I'll be doing that later today.  But, I have to figure out who to send the flag to next.  Looks like I might have missed the RA rally in Vermont.  I thought I  had another week to get it to someone for that, but it's only a few days away now.  Darn.

Well, let me know who to send the flag to.

Ed, you are very welcome!
I felt like I was meeting friends I'd known for years.  And in some ways it was exactly that.  I've known you on this forum for a very long time and it was great to finally get to actually meet you in person.
