Anyone wanna go for a run down the coast on Saturday 19th Sept? How far you wanna go is up to you guys...We can meet at Bald Hill at about 10am...I think it will be good to meet up with fellow R65 owners & go for a run :)
-
<jumping up and down> ME! ME!
...oh wait, Sydney. Well, I still want to but not that badly.
Have fun!
-
anyone? :(
-
Bet if you offered to buy someone a Victoria Bitter you'd get some takers. Hey Dav, if I was in Oz I'd be right there to make the ride and shout the first round. How's the riding up in the Blue Mountains? I have an ex-uncle that lives in Tamworth and he drove us up that way one time and it looks like it would be pretty good riding.
-
Hey Dav,
I'm up for a ride. When's the next time you heading out?
Pete
-
Mate sounds good to me, hows this Sunday 8th?
-
I can't this weekend as will be moving house. Weekend of the 15th looks like a possibility.
How does that fit with you?
-
weekend of the 15th is all good mate, would Saturday be better, you know Sunday drivers & etc....
Where about do you wanna meet? what time?
btw have fun moving house ;)
-
Saturday will suit me perfectly too.
As for where to meet - Either Wollongong way or somewhere around Sydney is fine for me. As I am moving to Coogee but for the next couple of weeks will be living in both places either is fine with me. Though I think south coast roads are generally more fun. Wherabouts is best for you? Bald hill (thats southern end of the Nasho - yeah?)
What are your thoughts for the cruise?
- A trip to Robertson for a pie and then to Berry for some desert? If the weather was anything like it was on Tuesday - a refreshing stop at kiama or similar could be a good option too?
-
Yeah mate Bald hill sounds good, say roughly 10.30?.
As for the cruise i reckon you have picked it spot on. Should be a bloody good ride 8-). Just hope mother nature shines on the day
-
Somebody better take some pics of this ride, so us poor Yanks can live vicariously thru your exploits!!! ;)
-
Sounds like a plan.
Pics shall be taken.
-
Pete, i hope you dont mind, my old man wants to tag along. He'll be riding my other boxer.
-
Sheez and I though we were exclusive - sniff!
just kidding.
It all good with me - more the merrier!
I just checked with the government weather clairvoyant. Looks like we did something good in a prior life.
Saturday Fine.
City: Min: 17 Max: 25
West: Min: 15 Max: 31
bring on Saturday
-
Still good on the weather front which is lucky as Sunday looks like a stinker! Still beats the forecast for SA that I heard on the Radio this afternoon.
Anyway the ol R65 is prepped - brim full of Petrol, tyres checked - ready to rock and roll.
See you in the morning.
-
The sun gods are shinning on us mate 8-)....see you at Bald Hill :)
-
Here's the pics of todays ride with aussiePete....we did about 300km's of rideing, with good share of them on twisty mountain roads....

Iam sure Pete will also post his pics soon..
-
Hey Dav,
That was a fun ride with You and Dennis.
Here are some of the pics from the trip. Sorry no helmet cam so pics are pretty much stationary of the bikes but take my word for it the roads were brilliant.

Are you keen on Putty with the lil R65 next time?
-
What a beautiful couple!
And nice pictures as well.
greetings from a grey and wet not to say cold north
-
Hey Dav (and any other interested parties),
Are you up for stretching the R65's legs sometime soon?
Possibly a trip to the hunter via putty road?
P.
-
Australia's still on my tin cup list (it's a downsized bucket list)... If and when I get there, I hope we can plan another "ride down the coast" with a guest Texan on a rental!
-
Hi Pete,
Sorry I missed the last one. I live in the Sutherland area so driving through the National Park to Wollongong is a regular jaunt for me. I grew up south of the Gong and love the ride through Jamberoo and then to Kiama. Never done Macqaurie Pass on a bike, something I must remedy and visit the Pie Shop
Would love to do the Putty road but a bit to far away from me, as my wife is in the last month toward her due date.
Any rides like the last one I may be able to tag along for, if you don't mind.
Also I sometimes organise a ride with work mates, (R100RT, R100/7 and Moto Morini 500). Would you like to know next time we do a south ride?
Best wishes,
Paul
-
Gday Pete, the putty road is one hell off a great road to ride, but for me its not something i would like to do on my R65.
What about a ran down south again (different route) with Paul. Paul iam also from Sutherland [smiley=thumbsup.gif].
ok lets get another run happening.
-
Hey fellow TX Burt, definitely let us know when you are coming this a way for a ride. Anything in the pipeline soon?
Hey Dav and Paul,
A run down the coast is always fun. I'm now based in Coogee so we could meet up at the entrance to the Nasho.
Slight change of weekends available - I can do this weekend coming or the weekend after easter of the 10/11th sound?
Pete.
-
Hi Pete, the weekend after easter sounds good. Lets hope Paul & others can make it?????
-
Putty Rd, was always a fun drive in a car (I had a 302 XC Falcon then living in Newcastle with the RAAF). I have never taken a bike down it. It always brings memories of a mate who pushed the limits too far on his bike, and didn't make it. He was a fair way above the speed limit and was found a long way from the road, so blame for his death was definitely pilot error. But his memory comes back when ever I hear the name Putty Rd.
-
Gorgeous... always wanted to visit Australia. Now even moreso.
-
Hi Pete and Dav,
I am busy this weekend and keen for the weekend after Easter but my wife is due to give birth on 12th, so I may be out for this one. She will either be very uncomfortable, in hospital or at home with the 4 yr old terror and the baby. So I think I will be needed.
So sorry I may have to pass this time.
But when things are less hectic I would love to go for a ride with some other R65s.
Best to all,
Paul
-
I'm sorry to hear that Darwin.
Particularly attached to an otherwise awesome driving/riding road.
There is an added dimension to consider on that road nowadays given that the halfway fuel station burnt down last year. Means a full tank is necessary prior to departure for a peace of mind ride along it.
Otherwise for us southern dwellers it makes for a fun ride/drive straight into tasty wine country as a reward.
Dav, I've pencilled that weekend in. Paul how's it looking for you?
-
ah looks like we were posting at the same time.
Hopefully can tee up a time in the not too distant future.
Best wishes for you and your family.
-
Paul congrats on your new arrival, see you on the next run [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif].
Pete what do you say we do a run up to the Blue Mountains via Bells Line Of Road????
-
Dav,
A run up the mountains would be excellent. I haven't ridden there for probably a year or so. Additional bonus is there are some great food venues along the way.
Pete
-
Hi Guys,
I mentioned the ride to my wife and she wasn't as cold on it as I thought. I guess that means I may join you. If you are heading west I may come part way. Which way do you head to the mountains, I don't enjoy free-ways on the bike; 120 km/h isn't the bikes forte.
I "may" be free for a ride next weekend (28/3) if anyone is interested. I have a free Sunday morning and thought I might take a jaunt through the National Park. Nothing certain, but may want a run before the new arrival locks up any ride time.
Best to all,
Paul
-
Paul it would great if you came along on the run on 10/11th, but we understand if you cnat make it. We'll be heading up the mountains through Bells Line Of Road, its the back road from Windsor to Lithgow, i'll say we'll meet up somewhere before Windsor (we can work that out later). On the way back i was thinking (but it could change, its up to you & Pete also) we head from Lithgow then up Mt Victoria to Blackheath etc on the Great western hwy until we reach the turn off to Bell, then we shoot down to Bell & ride back on Bells Line Of Road to Windsor.
If you can make the run on the 10/11th we can meet at Sutherland & ride to the meet up spot.
Might be able make a run through the Nasho on the 28th. i'll keep you posted.
Pete how does the Blue Mountains run sound???
-
I don't enjoy free-ways on the bike; 120 km/h isn't the bikes forte.
so true - that where the "cruise control" knob on the throttle comes into play and a good set of ear plugs.. lol.
Twisties is what the r65 was built for.
I can't do the 28th but enjoy the ride in the nasho.
Dav - that route sounds good to me. Possibly could start in horsnby and link through,
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=asquith+nsw&daddr=Cattai+Ridge+Rd+to:windsor+nsw+to:Lithgow+NSW+to:mt+victoria+to:bell+to:windsor&geocode=FUT4_f0dTbwBCSnbM9TRbVgNazFkqWnrSVKL8A%3BFagj__0dwNL_CA%3BFZIr__0dyUr9CCm1B4oQZGINazEl8FksprKrRw%3BFXwiAf4dozrzCClTjdklWwoSazH7nmQjeWjCsA%3BFa96__0dmab0CCmj9B-EbHMSazFtj68T_EwfZg%3B%3B&hl=en&mra=ls&via=1&sll=-33.561423,150.442657&sspn=0.315271,0.591888&ie=UTF8&z=10
hope the weather gods are smiling again this time.
-
Pete i was thinking the same sort of lines when i was looking at the map the other night, i reckon its a winner.
How about the Saturday 10th?
Where do you wanna meet up?
What time? (not to bloody early)
The sun gods better be shinning on the day :)
-
Dav,
Saturday it is.
What time? is 9AM-10AM too early?
-
Pete, 7 days till the run.
Where are we gonna meet up?
Time, 9.30 sounds good
-
2 days to go now.
9:30 done.
Weather looks to be coming good too. At the moment the BOM hedging its bet with 'chance' of a shower.
As for where to meet up? -There no way around a bit of traffic grinding for this one so it gives us a few options.
What about a servo along number 3 (King Georges) north of the M5 intersection - perhaps the shell on the left hand side north bound (actually the roads changes its name to Roberts rd at that section) just south of the Hume highway exit.

What are your thoughts?
-
Pete, can't wait!!
Is that the shell servo just past the Lone star steak house?
Dont forget the wet weather gear mate, you never know up through the mountains.
-
Just north of the lone star,
apparently it has a Maccas attached to it according the google with the approximate address of 7 Roberts Rd, Greenacre, NSW, Australia in street view.
Roger that with the rain gear - a word of warning - mine is pretty much a delightful shade of flouro orange.
-
Tyes pumped, oil checked, quick start up tonight when i got home to make sure she's singing her song, bring it on [smiley=thumbsup.gif].
-
Wow guys when was the 10th? I think I missed it :o It has all been a blur for me. How did the mountains ride go? Sorry if I missed the report posted elsewhere.
Paul

Are you allowed out to play?
-
Am I allowed out to play? Here at work?
Well, for lunch, whenever I want, and for however long I want, within reason and within the parameters of when I need to be physically involved with the process.
The first job runs from 1700 to past midnight without me touching anything, other than recording times and numbers. The most important thing is that I am here if something should go wrong. Then a programmer needs to be notified ASAP so we can get back on track.
I guess that is when I make the biggest difference around here.
Well, and coming in when no one else wants to, and staying all hours because there is no 3rd shift! (OT)
But you have to go back, now and find these geocaches for me!

Hi Pete,
Allowed out to play? Maybe, at the moment I am just loving the commute as I am on the bike. Really I cannot say, chances are no but you never know.
I would love to join, but even if I did come I would probably have to pull pin long before the loop was over, if I did come I would only be there for part of the ride, if that is OK.
Best wishes,
Paul
