Title: Spring Ride
Post by: proctorls on March 20, 2010, 08:10:03 PM
It's official!! Spring is here.

Mother nature laid a gift on us in the form of almost a week of progressively warmer days.  I've been commuting to work on my  bicycle, but today (Saturday) it was time to roll out the LS and fire it up.  After a quick stop at my local bike shop (The Nickwacket Garage, formerly Lloyd Provin's in Pittsford, VT), I headed north and then east over State Rt. 125.  Winter had played hell with the road, and there was a lot of ice and snow at the top, but I had the fever!!

No green, no flowers, just a few people cleaning up their yards and the brooks bank-full with rushing snowmelt.

Not much traffic, no sand or gravel, and the satisfying noise of a happy airhead, out of the garage and roaming the Green Mountains again.

I shot some video with my new camera.  It's being uploaded to YouTube as I write this.  I'll put the link up asap.

A happy airhead rider in Vermont

Ahhh - it was a beautiful spring day here in NC.  Took the Laverdas out for a ride out to the lake and had a picnic.  Daffodils were blooming, green Easter grass was in abundance and the sun was warm on our backs.   ;D

Ol' Bengt Phorqs ain't lying about our consistently inconsistent Texas weather phenomena.

Friday: Mid-70s and severe clear. Took the 1981 R65 on a 120 mile loop up through NorthEast Texas; all on excellent and frequently curvy Texas Farm-to-Market roads. Discovered the tiny community of Westminster where the big attraction is a biker bar and leather shop. The bar, Big Slick's, is in an old brick building with bars over the window openings, a rough wood door and no roof! Lucky Lou would love it as it's something right out of a SASS set.

Chatted with the Outpost owner. He stated that the bar and clothing shop draw upwards of 150 bikes on nice weekends. With the twisty roads just outside town, I'm thinking the Sheriff does a healthy business on weekends, too.

Saturday: Overcast and heavy rains. Kinda windy.

Sat evening and Sunday: Freakin' SNOW with 30+mph northerly breezes! Wind chill was #*@*& !

Roads around our vil are clear; ground's too warm to hold the snow. But there is good news in Monday's forecast: 68 degrees and full sunshine. I'm riding to work, fer sure.
