Hi Guys.
GMR 2009 is coming up soon. Come ride in the North Georgia mountains or just hang out at the camp ground and bay at the moon. 8-)

Darn - got a Jazz gig that weekend..
I can vouch for this great rally event, though. Been there a couple of times and the roads are fabulous, the food is (was) steaks cooked up to your liking on the outside grill, and as always great folks. 8-)
Have a great time!

Have a great time.
Your gig commitment reminded me that it would be so much fun to hear you and nhmaf jam! I see they have roll up piano keyboards but brass and winds...hmmmm. Not so easy to carry on the bikes with camping gear.
-
That sounds like so much fun! Which one? Well, both! The rally sounds like fun, but so does the jazz gig! [smiley=beatnik.gif]

Story of my life.... that's my scheduled weekend to work, (Groan...) :(
I had to use what little vacation time I have accrued to be able to go to the BMWMOA big dance in Johnson City in July. (Sigh...)
-
I’ve begged and borrow bits and pieces so that I can make the rally. It will be my first trip on my ’85 R65 other than running errands around Metro-Atlanta. It will also be my first motorcycle rally for over thirty years. Mark

Hey Mark,
When are you heading up to Hiawassee???
I'm up by Northlake Mall. I may have to make a couple of trips as I have evening commitments Wed-Thurs-Fri.
Might have to make one of them on the BSA Thunderbolt...
-
Bill and Others,
I'll be leaving from work in Chamblee on Friday afternoon. Not sure when as a work colleague is taking the lead in corralling a few loosely associated soles together to make the trip, and I’ve been out of town. I think the plan is to run up via Ga. 400 before traffic gets to be too stupid(!?) but I’ll know more when I see him in the morning (Thursday).
It’s HSR’s Walter Mitty weekend at Road Atlanta (cars from the hey days of IMSA Camel GT, SCCA Trans-Am, Can-Am, Formula One, CART, NASCAR Winston Cup, etc.) These cars are near and dear to the hearts of the people I will be riding with (me too, but they’ve lived and breathed this stuff for many more years than me) so I would be surprised if we did not come back via Brasleton and pop in at the track on the way home.
Bill, if you send me a PM we can swap notes.
Mark

IF I manage to land a really big client in time before the Tennessee thing maybe I'll have a sidecar rig - which would leave me some room for a sax or two, but otherwise I'll only have enough packing room for harmonica, which I haven't played much of in years. At least the BMWMOA rally usually has some pretty good variety of musical entertainment each night.

Went up there on the BSA Thunderbolt today and helped a bit on setup. Many of the tent camping sites are next to the lake! Really nice. I'm taking the R65 and my tent up tomorrow morning.
ACK ACK! I don't have the flag. Can somebody email me a .JPEG of the flag so I can print some signs???? m082@comcast.net Thanks!!!!
It would be nice to have an R65.ORG presence at the GMR. Where is my shirt.....? Why do I think of these things at the last minute D@mnit. :(

Bill,
I actually created it in Word, so I have it saved as a doc file. Will that be of any use? I don't really know how to make it into a jpeg. Can anyone else help with the conversion?

Had a *great* time. My $30 Colman 4 place tent doesn't leak!!!!
R65-Mark. I didn't see you there! The only other R65 was Bill Pullman's daughter on the 1979 with the nice Handlebar Rifle Fairing (Bronco Brown seat with Silver beige paint.) It had the stock 90/90/18 Bridgestone tire on the front. Holy Cow that tire is small!!!
Mark - I was the guy modeling the $1300 BMW two-piece adventure riding suit Grand Door Prize. Did you make it? Some young man (from SC) lucked out!!!
Really tired. Must sleep now.
-
Okay Mr. Gumby, where are all the pics?? :-?
We'll let you get some rest tonight and unpacked in the morning, but will then expect a full photo-journalistic layout before sundown tomorrow. [smiley=whip.gif]
ps: You and/or Ed riding up for The Gathering of the Clans this year?
pps: And $30 Coleman tents rule. If you really want an indestructible, hurricane-proof shelter, look at their $40-50 models!
-
I'm still finishing up my "simple four hour" job. Should have it back together and be able to make it back to the Gathering this year.

Rats.... Another year, another great rally missed. :(
Well, NEXT year, I'll have enough vacation days accrued to be able to do this rally for sure! I've heard too many great comments in the past on this rally to not check it out for myself!
Until then, I'll just have to live vicariously through others with their stories and pics! (sigh....)

Made it to and from the BMW Motorcycle Owners of Georgia’s North Georgia Mountain Rally at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds last weekend without incident (see pictures attached) This was a 400 plus mile weekend trip with friends who were riding much more powerful equipment (BMW’s included a R1100RT and a K1200LT.) Managed to keep up OK on my early ‘85 R65.
100 miles dry run up on Friday, mostly Interstate highway.
200 odd miles mostly wet or very wet on Saturday doing some twisties, including the Cherohala Skyway from an elevation of about 900 ft. in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, in the west to Robbinsville, North Carolina, in the east, which meant climbing over a 5,390 ft summit. Absolutely wonderful, and it helped that it stopped raining about the time we got on the skyway (I’m glad my wife opted to stay at home as I there would be no way I'd ever get back in to her good books if I’d subjected her to the truly appalling riding conditions earlier in the day.)
Sunday was 100 dry-ish back road miles home.
Despite the weather, the weekend was great fun.
Found an occasional hesitation at 4,250 rpm or so on the highway stretches if I really snapped open the throttle. No problem if I was a little less aggressive. Not sure I’ll worry about it, but if anyone has any thoughts, I’d like to hear them.
I’m in Eatonton, Georgia, a few days next week for work. If the weather holds, I’ll make this on my R65 (it’s work so I can’t really turn up in full rain gear.) If this works out, I’ll turn the journey into a 200 miles back roads round trip rather than a quick Interstate dash by car.

R65_Mark,
Well I'll be...That first picture is looking right at the shelter we were drinking beer at on Friday and Saturday night...Roy Fant, Marv'o and me from the BMWMOGA. My tent was behind that big green one on the far right of the picture. Roy's tent is the small solitary one on the left. (He snores) We were about 100 feet apart from you. Too funny. Never saw your Blue R65....
Ummm welll errr.. (pictures)...I didn't take any. My excuse was it was raining (some of the time) and I was working (some of the time) and well I just fergot. My bad. :-/
I missed out on the picture of the one tent surrounded by empty beer cans -- a lot of empty beer cans. <sigh>
When is the Gathering of the Clans??? (Wher is my copy of the AIRHEAD?)

Hear that, Rob? You still have the flag, don't you? You gonna get right on that? ;)

Here it is, Mike! I've attached the updated file with the new website...
