I finally got to get out on a ride today! Yahoooooooooooooo! I even gave out a big YAHOOOOOOOOOOOO! in my helmet when I finally got out on the road - oops, forgot my earplugs. ;D I was just so happy to finally get out. Plus, I just got new riding boots that I got to wear. [smiley=clap.gif]
It's the first time I've had the bike out since last fall. I am always concerned that things will be working right on the first trip out. There was one little thing (gas leak at the right carb when I first turned on the petcock. See tech section - I'll ask about that there). I topped her off with some good gas and took off.
I was meeting my friend at this wonderful pie place and we were going to go from there. The ride there was really nice. I know some great curvy and hilly back roads to get there and I had a great ride there. Well, the pie place was closed for Easter. Oh yeah. It's a holiday. Oh well. Plus, Larry realized his back brake on his K100 wasn't working. Urk. He couldn't figure it out, but while he was waiting for me he saw where the leak was. The sun was shining right on the rear brake fluid reservoir and he could finally see that the brake fluid was leaking out of a crack in the reservoir. No wonder the brake wasn't working. At least its an easy fix.
He decided it might be unsafe to ride like that and we'd have many more days of riding and he'd better get the bike back home. So we sat and chatted for awhile and figured out how to cure the worlds ills. I had much to do at home too so when we left I went back home too. Of course, I took those really neat curvy and hilly back roads back home. 8-)

Glad you made it out! Time to relearn how to ride and be ready for spring and summer.
Can you go wading in your new boots for an hour or so and let me know if they leak? ;D

The first ride of the season is a great day, really feels like you are 'free' again !!!
I'm sure that all of us have noticed, that on the bike you experience the environment around you, as opposed to being inside a 'cage'.
Reminds me of a line from a song by The Police ( Synchronicity 2 ), about the evening drive home, "..... packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes....".

The wh8la2 is still waiting for a new brake hose and a choker cable but spending a whole week with my grandson makes up for the lack of riding the wh8la2.

Yes! It was. And the boots were so new they didn't even have any dirt on the soles yet. 8-)

Oh yes Ed, I'll be sure to go wading in them in the next stream crossing I do. ::) (I don't do stream crossings, so I'm safe. ;D Hee hee! )
It's so true about the relearning part! It won't take long, but I did notice a few times where I had to think too much about what line I was following. A few times out and I'll be ready for some longer trips.

That's it exactly Bob! That's exactly what I was thinking and feeling!
Now I just have to put on new grips and get the R65 decals put on the battery covers and put the new BMW Roundels on. She'll be all dressed and ready to go places! 8-)

Dang. Well if Rob's are still waterproof after 9 years, yours probably are. I'll have to look into a pair.
As for relearning, I rode the R65 all winter except when it snowed. Yet a couple of Sundays ago I went to a potluck about 35 miles away and it was a gorgeous sunny day with dry pavement. I had to relearn how to ride on clean dry pavement! :D I rode the Triumph and I would go through a set of curves and the bike was mocking me, "Is that all you got?" I bet it took me 20 miles to remember that it's OK to lean. Something about all the ice and wet makes me a really timid rider in the winter. I made up for it on the way home. ;)

With your extreme winter conditiones in mind, I must admit - some bikers, (including myself) who do find themselves in countries with more " biker friendly" winter conditions, do not always appreciate the "freedom" of all year riding conditions !
Our local minimum winter temperatures (Durban] hardly ever drops below 7 deg. Celsius - still good enough for a very pleasant ride ! And by the way, that is night temperatures - our "very cold" winter day temperatures are usually between 10 - 15 deg Celcius !
