Title: 49er Rally - what I've heard so far
Post by: Melena on May 28, 2008, 10:20:30 PM
Rain, cold, snow over the passes.

I talked with someone today who went to the 49er Rally in Auburn, CA, last weekend.  Sounds like they had about 1/2 the attendance of normal.  It started raining Friday evening and rained through Saturday.  The rest of the time was not above 60 F and cloudy.  It snowed 10" at Truckee and I-80 over Donner Pass had snow chain requirements.    :o   The roads that people so love to ride up there weren't accessible.  Many people that showed up left the next day.  I guess it wasn't too well organized.  There wasn't much to do.  They didn't even have any rally t-shirts.  He said I didn't miss anything.  The vendors showed up and they were busy - I guess that's all there was to do.

Well, at least that was one man's story.  I'm sure that someone has something good to say about the weekend!

I'm really glad I wasn't able to go.  Another reason I'm not unhappy that I'm laid up.  Everything works out.

Chris in BC, I haven't seen you here for awhile.  Did you guys come down for the rally?  With the weathr the way it was, you may have decided not to make the trip this year.

I heard it was nasty, too. Couple of MOA friends in Seattle headed out for it but didn't even get close before the rain/wind/cold got to them.

Eeep. It's been a long cold, wet winter here and I'm sure glad I no longer have to prove to myself how tough I am by riding every day in it.  ;D

I will admit to taking the car if it is raining when I leave for work, but since it turned to riding weather, my motorcycle is my method of making a tank of gas in the car last a long time!
Right now that means riding home in the wee-est hours of the morning in sub-60F (16C) temps.  But it is only a 14.4 mile trip (23km), so it is not that big of a deal.
(I just got my replacement Garmin etrex Legend!)

Too bad about the rally, though.

Oooo! New etrex! MOST excellent.

Yesterday I rode the screaming yellow bicycle to work. Ooof! No Garmin, no windscreen, no gas throttle...  :-/
