Nice! I love pics of strange R65's we find in the wild! ;)

We used to have a member down there, but maybe that was on one of the previous phorums. I remember because he showed many pictures of his daily commute which included the Golden Gate Bridge. The idea of all that traffic gave me a serious case of heebeejeebies.

I'm told I'm pretty much assured that here in the upstate of the Palmetto State that I won't see another R65 unless one comes through here on its way to somewhere else. Our local BMW dealer told me the other day that as far as they know, my R65 is the only one on the road and running! (The sales manager said he has one in pieces in his shed that he wants to disassemble and restore to make into a cafe racer for his wife, but that doesn't count!) ::)
-
I've only seen one other R65 on the road, that was back in October, 1987, in the San Diego area, and it was an '81 model same color as mine, azure blue.
I've gone and looked at a few that were up for sale, but never see any on the road.
Including the mono-shock bikes, I think the total number imported into the US and Canada was about 6700.
I wonder how many are still out prowling the roads of North America these days ?
-
just an added note, when I first arrived in S.F. the first bike I saw was an R65LS in black headed opposite my direction. I was struck by how many older / interesting bikes are runnin' round that city.

The last time we had an R65-Only ride around here (gawd was it THAT long ago?) a handful of riders showed. [she laughs] Four R65's iirc, Jim's 'Piglet' R45 from Vancouver Isl, and a guy on a green guzzi. Big fun!
I'm thinking I should call another one. ;D

Just because I happened to have this pic, here's a shot of 3 R65s, all '84 models, with an '81 (?) R100 in the lead, last August on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
These belong to SC John, Aida (Ms. Buck), and yours truly, with the R100 being Graham's bike (Aida's hubby).
We coulda taken him on the sweeping curves of the BRP, but he knew where were going so we kinda had to let him lead... ::)
That, plus we wanted to keep our driver's licenses too...

Know when I first remember being smitten by the R65's charms (actually, it was an R65LS)? It was in November of 1983, when ABC aired a made for TV called, "The Day After - Beyond Imagining". It starred Jason Robards, JoBeth Williams, Steve Guttenberg, and John Lithgow. It was about a nuclear bomb dropped in Kansas and how the folks in a small town near ground zero coped with its aftermath. A college student (Guttenberg) rode a Henna Red R65LS in the movie before the explosion. That's the first time I remember seeing this beauty and being knocked out by its styling! (Oh, and the movie was pretty good, too!) ;)

Hey yeah, I remember that one too!
And then, after the blast, Guttenberg outran the nuclear winds and fallout on his red LS, right?
I bet a silver one wouldn't have made it... ;D :o ::)

Great shot of the loaded mules! Perfect! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

What Fun! I love seeing the pictures of the R65's together.
I've seen an R65 here where I live. Once it was parked outside a restaurant, and I've seen it around on the streets here. I know it's the same one. Somehow it's never been at a time I could stop and talk with the owner. It's kinda hard to do that when I'm in a car going the opposite direction. :(
Hmmm, come to think of it, I haven't seen it in awhile. I'll have to go look for it.

O.K. you North American East Coasters ... I have just put in my request for vacation for June 12 and 13, so I will have the weekend for Gathering of the Clan available.
If I keep trying, I just might make it!

I went to the last falling leaf rally in Potosi, MO (back in October). It was my first rally, and I was really surprised to see TWO other 65's besides mine. One of the R65 riders got the youngest rider award. He was 16. He was on a nice looking pre-1981 brown model.

I think we had at least 3 last year at Chief Joseph. Maybe this year I can persuade Chris in B.C. to help me round them up and get a group photo. There won't be any doubt which one is mine. :-[
Oh sure, I suppose some people might think that I could always buy a camera of my own. I need the money for parts.

Hope to make CJ this year.
(Last summer was pretty well locked up moving Gram around.)
Lucky me! I just found the new choke cable splitter tube I thought I'd lost. YESSSSS!

OMG that is so funny! we watched that movie in US HIstory last week and i freaked out and i shouted out "Hey I have one of those!!!!".....nobody believed me......
-
Did they make you stand in the corner for talking while the movie was playing? ;)
Earlier this evening I was just reminiscing about H.S.; how much easier it was to ask a girl out since no one was married! (old age sucks!)
You see, there is this female here at work, but she is young and beautiful, and I know what the answer probably is.
OK, OK, I will ask... but I'm telling you now...

Last weekend my wife and I saw a R65LS running around the lake. I followed to the bridge, and they stopped for the view { spectacular}. The bike was an 81 belonging to a gentleman named Adolf. He will call me next time he is heading this way, hope to get some good shots of the two R65's.
-
Haha no corner standing, but i got the everybody-must-chime-in "SHHHHHH!"
and it really isn't that easy asking girls out, maybe if i shed a few pounds and work on that six pack. i'm still tryin 2 figure out how to ask this one chic to prom...we were talking about how this one dude asked her and she said no so i think she was hinting that she wanted to go with me but she's really proper so i gotta ask nice....
and this isnt an R65 sighting, but an airhead sighting as i don't have a clue as to which model it is. its on the new old navy commercial. they dont show but up past the place where the tank roundel would be (its taken off), but you can see that the headers are totally on a twin. 1 point for Harrison!

Yeah, I saw that video. From those who know, it's a /5. I think you can see that on the engine case. I'll have to see if I can find that again and post it here.

Click on "April". After you watch the video, if you click in the bottom of the frame, you can watch a "behind the scenes" video and see more of the bike there.
